You were good, you were kind,
You were everything I needed.
You had made up your mind,
You played fair and never cheated.
A sensible gentleman
Like my parents always prayed for.
I did not take your hand,
Someone shook my heart right to the core.
“Stay away from my girl”, he said.
Is this something I will regret?
Throwing safety away for joy,
I ran away with the bad boy.
He was bold, he was wild,
But for me he calmed his temper.
Once we had our first child
He quit smoking, lost all anger.
He was smart and well read,
Without higher education.
He worked hard for our bread
Our kids his best motivation.
And though sometimes it did look bad,
Still he never made me regret.
He gave me safety, he gave me joy.
I ran away with the bad boy.
Fifty years, time goes by,
They say you meet twice a lifetime.
I ́m alright – That ́s a lie,
Was alone when I found you online.
“How did we drift apart?
How did we loose our connection?”
“It was your man. It was hard.”
From the past a dim reflection.
“Stay away from my girl”, he said.
And yet never did I regret
Throwing safety away for joy.
I ran away with the bad boy.
